3 Common Window Repair Mistakes

Window damage repair might seem simple. However, it is not quite the same as changing your own oil.

In fact, Broadway Glass has certified window repair experts that have seen some drivers make a small problem into a major problem. Read on to discover why experience is so important for auto glass services.

What sort of window damage repair mistakes are common?

Some drivers try to use at-home kits to fix a rock chip. If you are not familiar with the materials and the process, you can actually cause more damage, instead of fixing the original chip.

Web video guides make windshield repair seem simple enough. Just like any online video or tutorial, you have to consider the source. A professional who is trained to do repairs makes it look easy on camera, because they have a steady hand and have done hundreds of repairs. This does not guarantee that you will get it right when you try for the first time in your own garage.

Drivers will choose to just keep driving, waiting until it is so bad that it must be replaced. This is not only a more expensive decision, but an unsafe one. Drivers and passengers could be cut by broken glass if your windshield finally caves in after months of driving despite serious windshield damage.

How can drivers avoid common window damage repair mistakes?

The best choice is to visit a professional auto glass service right away. Once you see a windshield crack, a chipped window or other auto glass damage, let the pros get to work. Remember, if you try to do the work on your own, you might invalidate your warranty or insurance policy.

The Benefits of A Remote Starter

The Benefits of a Remote Starter

Convenience. It is what we strive for. And nothing is quite as convenient as a remote starter. This vehicular luxury can be purchased and installed as an aftermarket accessory.

This article from explains several benefits to having a remote starter installed in your car, truck, or SUV.

A remote starter allows a driver to start a car’s engine with a remote control, usually in the form of an electronic key fob. Besides the obvious advantage of stepping into a warm (or cool) car, there are several benefits of having a remote starter. These benefits include:

Comfort is the key. As we mentioned above, remote starters allow you to start your car from inside your home, meaning you can let your vehicle warm up in the winter or cool down in the summer. By leaving the heater or air conditioning in the “On” position, a driver can activate the remote starter then wait several minutes, during which time the climate control runs.

By allowing your car to warm up before driving, it makes ice and snow cleanup and defrosting much easier. All of this means greater visibility for you, the driver. Warming the car also melts snow and ice that can obstruct the headlights or brake lights, making your car more visible to other drivers, especially in snowy conditions.

Engine Care

Warming the car, before driving, is also beneficial for the engine. Because the car idles for several minutes before being driven, the engine oil becomes more viscous and provides better lubrication once the driver is ready to go.

Resale Value

Remote starters also add to the resale value of your vehicle, especially if you live in areas with extreme weather conditions.

If you are interested in having a remote starter installed in your vehicle, contact Broadway Glass today!  We are here for you!

How Long can I drive with a windshield crack?

The best choice is to fix it right away. Even a small rock chip in your auto glass can start to grow as you keep on driving. Worse, if debris, heavy rain or anything else hits a crack in your windshield, it could break wide open.

This is a very scary situation for any driver. Consider the following:

How severe is the crack in your windshield?
A minor chip is not a major risk. You could probably drive for hundreds of miles with no problems. However, a large crack like a spider web must be fixed right away.

Where is the crack in your windshield?
If the crack obstructs the view from the driver’s seat, you should not drive until it is fixed. Mobile windshield crack repair professionals exist specifically for this reason. Just call them up to get your windshield as good as new within a few hours!

What about the cost of windshield crack repair?

This is why a lot of drivers will ignore cracks at first. However, auto glass services are just like any other automotive service. The longer you put it off, the more it will cost you in the long run. Getting a small crack fixed will cost less than a full windshield replacement.

The specialists at Broadway Glass are dedicated to proving prompt, affordable service. Let us know if you have specific windshield repair or replacement questions!

Window Tint FAQ’s

1. How long does it take to install window tint on my vehicle?

The average vehicle takes between 1 and 2 hours.

2. How do I clean my tinted windows?

The best thing to clean your window tint with is a micro fiber cloth and a ammonia free window cleaner unless you have 3M film then windex will work fine. You must use ammonia free products with all other films, 3M is the only film manufactured to be ammonia safe. Many people think that ammonia turns the film purple. It actually breaks down the scratch coat and will cause your film to scratch easier and will eventually ruin the film. Read more.

3. Why do I see little bubbles or cloudiness after installation?

This is completely normal and this condition will go away on it’s own. We use a soap and water solution to clean the windows and help move the film around to get it in to the right position. We squeegee as much of this solution out as possible, some of this solution remains between the film and the glass. This usually takes anywhere from 2 to 30 days to dry. These bubbles are normal and should be left alone. Do not try to poke or pop as they will evaporate through the film on their own. Forcing these bubbles to move can lift the adhesive and damage your film.

4. Can window tint be removed?
Window tint is not permanent and can be removed at any time. It can be a very difficult job and a professional should be used for this process. Removal can take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours depending on the difficulty, quality and age of the film.

5. Will my window tint fade or turn purple?
This depends on the film you chose. If you would like a long lasting film try 3M cs nano carbon Film. 3M cs nano Carbon film is a non-reflective non metallized film and contains no dyes so it never changes color and will not interfere with cell phone reception or any of your cars electronics like a metallized film will. It also comes with a nation wide manufacturer’s lifetime warranty. Also check out the 3M crystalline film or take a look at our blog for more information.

6. Does Window Film go on the inside or the outside?
Window film goes on the inside of the windows. To install the film it must start on the outside of the windows to get the shape and size of the windows. Most cars have compound curved windows and the film is flat. Heat is used to shrink the film to the shape of the glass before it can be installed on the inside.

7. Why does window tint turn purple or bubble?
Purple windows are a result getting a cheap dyed film or a very old dyed film. All dyed films will fade or turn purple. The bubble are caused by the adhesive breaking down and causing the tint to lift from the glass. Your cheaper films can fail in as little as 1 year. Your best window films can last for more than 10 years. This is why it is a good idea to use a good quality film like 3M to make sure you never have that happen to you. 3M has the best warranties and the most advanced tint in the window film industry. Did you know that 3M invented window film and are the only company in the world that manufactures their own film from start to finish. Read more about 3M here.

8. How durable is window tint?
Window tint is very durable, All window films are protected by a scratch coat which is a scratch resistant coatings applied to the outer layer of the film. This scratch coating is scratch-resistant and resists scratches. The key word however is “resistant”, this does not mean “scratch-proof” So be careful loading or unloading anything with sharp or hard corners that could damage your film. The most common thing to damage the window film is when taking your seat belt off. The metal part of the seat belt can hit the glass and nick the window film so be careful releasing the seat belt.

9. What is difference between a dyed-film, hybrid film, full metallized film, carbon film and ceramic film?
Dyed Films are usually black in color and and are the cheapest. They also have the shortest life expectancy and the lowest heat rejection. Hybred films are a combination of dyes and metals. These films have a longer life and a higher heat rejection but can cause radio frequency interference. Full metallized films have the highest heat rejection and the longest life expectancy but are reflective or mirrored. Carbon films are a carbon fiber material, these films have a very high heat rejection without any radio interference and will never turn purple like the dyed films will. Ceramic films are made of inorganic, non-metallic materials that can block almost as much heat as an all metal window film.

10. What is the difference between my factory tinted windows and after-market window tint?
Factory tinted windows are darkened using an electrical process called “deep dipping”. Factory tinted windows offer privacy but do not protect your interior of your car from heat or damaging UV rays. after market window tint is designed to block UV and heat and offers you and your interior protection from the sun. Factory tint can never be removed but you can install window tint right over it to get UV protection and add the much needed heat rejection.
